I miss Ilmo, and cherish every memory and every conversation we had together. His unique combination of brilliant scientific thinking, empathy, and pragmatism left me thinking about him and his ideas for weeks on end… Whether it was discussing virtual reality, large language models (and having LLMs write entire books!), or self-driving cars, he always had a great perspective.

I think back to watching Youtube together back in 2008 (Hayzell and Ilmo, this was our first hangout with Akosua!), or remote double dates (Zoom-mediated wine with Andrea and Hayzell) during COVID… We always had fantastic, deep ideas to explore, and laughs to share.

Ever the conscientious researcher, my email inbox is full of papers and journal articles Ilmo shared following those dates, chats, walks, lunches, and conversations.

Ilmo, I miss you very much, and wish we could have had many more catchups.
