While I only met Ilmo a couple times in person, his work had a huge impact on my time at Google. Ilmo was the first person in a string of leads on the UX Research van program, of which I was the third. From what I understand, he worked on the initial designs and development of the research van program, then passed it off to another lead, who passed things on to me. I then worked on the program for about 4 years, benefitting from all the work that Ilmo did to develop the vans for that whole time, without ever having met him. I was lucky enough to meet him when he was working at Waymo, when he graciously invited me to come over and share the research van with his team, while he and his team shared what it was like to work at Waymo.
