I met Ilmo when I started my PhD in Experimental Psychology department. Even though it’s many years ago, I still remember his infectious smile, and eyes that sparkled with so much aliveness. He was always in a good mood, smiles and jokes, and most importantly, always with a big warm open heart, ready to help you in whatever way you needed. Ilmo was extremely smart, a fantastic conversation companion, psychology ideas powerhouse… and an absolute ace in statistics. I remember some of the statistics classes he gave us fellow younger PhD students – and how he managed to make it not just understandable, but fun! But most importantly, how generous he was with his time and always willing to explain to you whatever you needed help with. What I however remember the most vividly, is the incredible amount of love, respect, kindness and admiration that he treated Hayzell with. It’s definitely made a big impression on me, an example of how a loving partnership looks like. There are very few people like Ilmo in this world and it was a privilege to have met and witness the beautiful human being that he was.
